چکیده

SUMMARY The clearance of colloidal carbon from the blood stream of rats bearing methylcholanthrene-induced sarcomas has been studied. Growth of both primary and isotransplanted tumors greatly enhances the clearance of carbon. This effect is greater with increasing tumor size. The uptake of radioactive colloidal gold has been studied following intravenous injection. The final distribution of colloid is not altered by tumor growth. The use of colloid gives a quantitative measure of reticuloendothelial activity, that reflects macroscopic and microscopic changes occurring in the spleens of rats bearing methylcholanthrene-induced sarcomas.

Enhancement of resistance to murine osteogenic sarcoma in vivo by an extract of Brucella abortus (Bru-Pel): association with activation of reticuloendothelial system macrophages.

The administration of an aqueous-ether extracted residue of Brucella abortus (Bru-Pel) inhibits development of transplanted osteogenic sarcomas in mice as evidenced by a decrease in mortality. At least one mechanism through which Bru-Pel modulates host resistance is activation of macrophages of the reticuloendothelial system. Peritoneal macrophages harvested from mice receiving Bru-Pel were cyt...

Attempts to Abrogate Immunity to the Brown-Pearce Carcinoma*

The cells of the reticuloendothelial system are often regarded as barriers against the development and growth of malignant tumors. Experimental substantiation of this has been obtained by attempts to suppress the functions of these cells by so called blockade methods, and by stimulation of these Cells for the purpose of increasing their functional activity. The former procedure is considered to...

Effect of bacterial contamination of the tumor on tumor-host relationships.

Host effects produced by the tumor were studied in rats with the Walker carcinoma 256 either contaminated with or free of Salmonella typhimurium. In the absence of bacterial infection, tumor growth caused slight changes in most of the systems studied. Usually the changes were most pronounced when the tumors were 10-15 per cent of the total body weight. In the presence of infection, the changes ...

The Effect of Sodium Valproate and Low Frequency Electrical Stimulation on Motor Activity During Rapid Kindling of Hippocampal CA1 Region in Adult Male Rat: An Experimental Study

Background and Objectives: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder that requires long treatment with less side effects. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of sodium valproate and electrical stimulation of the brain with low frequency (LFS) on the motor activity of male rat during hippocampus rapid kindling. Material and Methods: In this experimental study, 56 male adult ra...
